Frequently Asked Questions
How long is a colonic or foot spa session?
For new colonic clients, plan to be here for 1.25-1.5 hours, you will actually be on the device for 40 minutes for your first session. Once you’ve had your first session with us you can choose between a 40 minute session or a 60 minute session.
For Ionic Foot Spas, plan to be here about 45 minutes and you will have your feet in the water for 40 minutes. We do foot spas for children as well, depending on their age we run them for shorter amounts of time.
How many colonic sessions should I do?
We recommend when you are first starting out to do at least four colonic sessions close together, we find most people get the most movement on their 3rd and 4th session, since the first two are more about hydrating the colon and softening hardened stool. This is also when most clients’ colons become clear enough for the liver to dump toxins into the colon to be eliminated in the form of bile. Usually, clients are starting to feel pretty good in between sessions by this time.
We recommended doing two sessions your first week, then one the following week for the next two weeks. Some clients continue weekly for a few more sessions and some move to every other week for a few weeks to keep things moving. The majority of our clients see us monthly or bi-monthly once their initial round of colonics is over; typically this is anywhere from 4-12 sessions.
When will my colon be completely empty?
If you did a 1.5 hour colonic three days in a row and water fasted for those three days, most colons would be completely clear at that point. As we are continually eating food, it is difficult for the colon to be completely clear without fasting. Always talk to your doctor first before fasting, this can be detrimental for some people depending on underlying conditions.
What is the difference between a colonic and a colonoscopy?
In a colonic system, purified water is used at a low pressure in the colon to soften hardened stool and clean the colon of parasites, viruses, and bacteria. It takes multiple 40 minute sessions to fully the clean the colon and regular sessions after that to maintain its optimum health. Colon hydrotherapy works slower with your body’s natural ways of eliminating. Colon hydrotherapy is used a preventative measure to keep the colon healthy.
In a colonoscopy, medicated fluids are used to force elimination so the colon is clear enough prior to the operation. The main point of a Colonoscopy is to scope the colon to check for any abnormalities or signs of disease. Typically, Colonoscopies are also used as a preventative procedure, but can be used if disease is suspected by your physician.
What is the difference between a colonic and an enema?
When doing an enema, water (or water mixed with various solutions) is inserted into the colon through a squeeze bottle. You hold the water in your colon as long as you can before needing to eliminate. This usually is less than one liter of water, which can only get part of the way up the colon. Some clients find they can get some relief from enemas.
During a 40 minute colonic session, you can take in between 10-25 gallons of water throughout your session. Because the water is pressurized and you are on the device for 40 minutes you are able to work deeper into the colon than you can with an enema.
How do the ionic foot spas work?
The module is connected to the electrical box and sends 24 volts of electrical current into the module in the water. The module is made of stainless steel and copper rings and as the electrical current (moving electrons) flows into it, bouncing between the rings, electrons flow into the water. This creates the ionic field; a highly charged negative magnetic field.
Toxins are a positive charge, so as opposites attract, they are pulled through the pores in the feet in the water. We use the feet because we have over 2,000 pores on the bottom and they are the largest in the entire body. This device was designed to mimic the body’s natural way of detoxifying.
The negatively charged ions also enter the body and give each cell’s mitochondria (power house or the cell) energy in the form of a tiny electrical charge, this keeps all your cells healthy and functioning optimally. Negative ions also neutralize free radicals in the body.
Is a colonic right for me? (contraindications)
We believe every human can benefit from colon hydrotherapy, however there are some contraindications. If you are pregnant, under 18, are currently on antibiotics or have had any parts of your colon removed you cannot do colonics. Also, if you have had any abdominal surgeries or colonoscopies you must wait three months to make sure you are fully healed, unless you get approval from your physician. Also, medications can be diluted by colon hydrotherapy, so check with your doctor before starting colonics if you need to adjust your medication schedule.
How often can I do a colonic or foot spa?
Most people can benefit from weekly colonics as long as they are making efforts to repopulate their gut bacteria because we do loose some of our good bacteria during colon hydrotherapy. Most clients are on a bi-weekly or monthly schedule once their initial sessions are over.
Ionic Foot Spas can be done every two days. Be sure to take a mineral supplement to remineralize the body afterwards, because we do get rid of some of the minerals we want in our body during this therapy.
Do you treat the water you use in colonics?
We use the purest water possible with our colon hydrotherapy devices.
We have a high pressure charcoal water purification system installed in our building and each device has its own 5 micron charcoal filter and UVA/UVB light as part of its design.
Our filtration systems will filter out 100% of parasites, viruses, bacteria, chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals and pharmaceuticals.
What is the difference between an ‘open system’ and a ‘closed system’?
Open systems mean the water is always flowing and the nozzle stays inserted the entire time, as you release the stool flows around the nozzle and into the basin. On an open system you are alone the majority of the time during your session, our therapists are always just one room away, should you need anything. You insert the nozzle yourself and are covered the entire time. The nozzle is much smaller than on a closed system (about the size of a pinky finger). Open systems strengthen your colon over time. While you are on our system, you use your body’s natural way of elimination and it works out your colon to strengthen it over time. We call it a gym session for your colon and abdomen. Doing regular colon hydrotherapy, keeps the colon toned and strong as we age. With an open system, you have full control of the water pressure throughout your session.
With closed systems, the therapist is in the room with you the entire time, they insert the nozzle and it is much larger. On closed systems stool is vacuumed out of your colon versus you using your body’s natural way of elimination and you must communicate with your therapist to adjust the water pressure for you.
